As you may or may not know all 7-12 grade Band & Orchestra students will be participating in the District 3 MSBOA Band & Orchestra Festival on February 27 or February 28, 2015. The Carman Ainsworth Band & Orchestra program is hosting this District Festival at the High School. During Friday evening and Saturday performances we expect to host 12+ schools and approximately 25 different performances that will be judged. As you can imagine it takes many hands to make this a smooth process. This is where we are asking for your help.
The festival planning meeting that was scheduled for last Thursday was cancelled due to the weather. We have rescheduled the meeting to Thursday January 22, 2015 at 6:00pm and hope that you might be able to attend to help in the planning of the two days.
For those families that are new to our band family this year the following is a description of what Band & Orchestra Festival is. "Band and Orchestra Festival is an opportunity for ensembles from member schools to perform a program of three pieces for adjudication, one of which must be from MSBOA's required list. District-level festivals are held at the end of February through the beginning of March. Each group is evaluated by three performance judges and one sight-reading judge.
SCORING
Ensembles are rated on a scale from 1 to 5 with 1 being the highest rating possible. The overall score is computed using a formula which combines the ratings of each judge. Ensembles that earn an overall 1 rating (or "Superior") are qualified for State Band & Orchestra Festival which is held in late April or early May. The basic structure of State Band & Orchestra Festival is the same as District, but the ensembles are held to a higher standard."
